Railway Hotel, Oldham Road

Railway Hotel (far right), Oldham Street. (c) Neil Richardson [1].

The Railway Hotel is seen in the centre of this 1898 photo.  It was right on the edge of our boundaries, oppposite Bengal Street, pretty much where the Chinese HSBC bank is.  It started out as the Crown & Clock in the late 1700s, later the Clock Face and Sun Inn.  When Oldham Road Station opened in 1839 it became the Railway Hotel, for a time being ran by the Kings Arms' old landlord Horation Nelson Harrop, before closing in 1929 as a Pollard Street Brewery pub [1].
