The Gardeners Arms was not one I'd frequent regularly, though definitely had a few in here over the years - I remember the fug of weed and the collection going round for "The Cause" (it was an Irish pub). It's shown at the archives in 1973 as a Greenall Whitley house.
The Gardeners Arms was renowned as something of a Manchester muso's hangout out on match day with faces from the local music scene - Rob Gretton, Kevin Cummins, Mike Pickering, Doves, etc. - drinking in here with their pals.

The Gardeners sat between the Lord Lyon / Nelson and the Rusholme Working Mens Social Club and can be seen on the left of the club here in 1973 - sadly all three of watering holes are now gone. I'd assumed the Gardeners had been demolished following reports of a new block of flats. However, this is still the original pub building, now non-whitewashed, with a new extension built on the side.
