Locomotive, Oldham Road

Locomotive, Oldham Road. (c) Google 2010. View Larger Map.

The Locomotive was opposite the Cheshire Cheese on the corner of Marshall Street and Oldham Road where the French Parts garage is.  Originally a tobacconist's it was first known as the Brewers Arms, closing as the Locomotive Inn in 1917.  The beerhouse was mentioned in the celebrated copper James Caminada's Twenty-five Years of Detective Life as being "noted for pugilists" (i.e. scrapping!) [1].
