Exchange Hotel, Fennel Street

Exchange Hotel, Fennel Street. (c) northmanchester.net.

The Exchange Hotel replaced three alehouses (as yet unidentified) which stood in this location on Fennel Street corner of the Corn Exchange (now The Triangle), behind Manchester Cathedral.  The Exchange Hotel lost its licence in 1945 [1] which is presumably when it closed.

  1. My mother Dorothy was born in the Exchange Hotel in 1916. She was the daughter of the licencee Alfred George Urmston and his wife Eliza Jane. The hotel was badly damaged in the blitz on the night Manchester Cathedral was bombed. As far as I am aware it never reopened.
