Old Lancashire Hounds, Bengal Street

Victoria Square, Oldham Road and Bengal Street, 1991. (c) Housing Care.

The Old Lancashire Hounds, a Threlfalls house, formerly the Jolly Hatters when it was licenced in 1825, was lost when the Victoria Square housing development was built over much of Primrose Street in the 1890s.  The name change came about when Samuel Senior came to take over in 1847.  He moved from the Lancashire Hounds on Hilton Street, a few hundred yards towards the city centre [1], bringing his pub name with him.
