White Lion, Long Millgate

White Lion, Long Millgate, 1875. (c) Greater Manchester Country Records Office.

The White Lion on Long Millgate was demolished in 1908 as seen here, and it probably needed it, as seen in this photograph from 1906 when it was virtually falling down.

White Lion, Long Millgate, 1889. (c) Alan Gall [1].

The White Lion is depicted here at the archives almost two centuries ago in around 1820.  On this site now sits Urbis, the exhibition centre, which has recently taken on the National Football Musuem.

Urbis, Cathedral Gardens. (c) evoke.

1. Manchester Breweries of times gone by, Alan Gall (year unknown).
