This is an intriguing one, mentioned briefly on CAMRA's Trafford & Hulme website by Mike Ginley: "The first West Indian immigrants arrived in Manchester not in the 1950s but in the 1740s. They tended to be crewmen who jumped ship in Liverpool and came to Manchester after encountering prejudice. The first West Indian pub was probably The Demerara, off St John Street Deansgate, around 1810 [1]." Can anyone shed more light on this one?
