North Pole Bar, Hardman Boulevard, Spinningfields

North Pole Bar, Spinningfield, 2008. (c) manchester-clubbing.

Not quite Manchester's shortest-lived bar (that honour goes to Urban Oasis which was open for just a week) but North Pole Bar was open only 8 weeks during the winters of 2008 and 2009. It was erected by events company, Ear to the Ground, next to the Spinningfields ice rink in 2009 having been at Urbis in 2008. Inside the tent structure was a bar serving cocktails, mulled vine (sweetened with Manchester's very own Vim[p]to) and pizzas, not sure about beer but the photo below suggests some pumps.

The oddest part was this sign pointing the way to Krakow - 976 miles. North Pole Bar may well become a regular feature every winter like the German Markets, and would be a welcome addition to the city centre... providing they serve up some Manchester ale as well.
