Urban Oasis, Dale Street

This would win the "Manchester bar open for the shortest time" award if indeed there was one. For one week only in August 2005 Urban Oasis open air bar was created by the Office of Suburban Architecture on a derelict Dale Street site in the quirky Northern Quarter. There were signs saying "Keep on the Grass" and instead of music they piped out sounds from nature [1]. The tables, chairs and even the bar (prefabricated in Cologne [2]) were grass-covered which makes for an interesting concept, even if the choice of beer was less interesting - draught and bottled Hoegaarden only.
