Applejacks was a basement bar beneath what is now the Macdonald Townhouse Hotel on Portland Street. Described as a celebrity haunt down a dead-end street (presumably that is Abingdon Street) opposite the Old Monkey, Applejacks was a short-lived venue in this Grade II-listed building, the grand Pickles Building built in about 1870 . This door down Abington Street may have been the entrance to Applejacks (that's the Grey Horse in the distance along Portland Street).
