North Western Hotel, Halliwell Street

Victoria-bound trams now pass down Halliwell Street. These 1966 and 1976 photos show the Samuel Smiths owned North Western Hotel on the corner of Halliwell Street and Corporation Street.  This spot has long since been replaced by a rather nondescript block of office and shops.

  1. Called in here every Tuesday and Thursday evening after working overtime and before catching my train home.

  2. Was Sam Smiths the cheapest pint available back in the day, like it is now?
