The Bee Hive was right outside the entrance to the Bradford Pit, so would be full of miners who would have a quick shower after their shift then head for a pint of Chesters. Morning workers would also pop in for a couple of pints before work (a more relaxed attitude to health & safety then) while the afternoon shift would have to convince the landlord to allow them a drink despite the restrictive opening hours [1].
