Maxwells / King's, King Street West

King's, King Street West. (c) Alan Winfield with permission.

Maxwells was one of the first café bar boozers, and was originally sited just near to Kendalls in the building now occupied by San Carlo.  Maxwells was one of the first to have genuine foreign lager on draught, and it served a purpose on occasion but wouldn't be the sort of place we'd now frequent.  It was called Kings for a time in the late 1990s, as shown above.  Maxwells was in the news in 1999 when Man Utd legend Roy Keane was arrested here having assaulted a female in Henry's.
