The Blue Bell stood from 1836 to 1963 before it was lost to development. It was on Reather Street which used to run from Rochdale Road towards Oldham Road in Collyhurst, and it is all-but-lost except for the short Reather Walk today. The Blue Bell was an Empress Brewery, Walkers of Warrington and then Tetley's house before the compulsory purchase order for development came [1].
If this is Reather St & Oldham Rd, then the Blue Bell must have become the "Vulcan" and a Threefalls Pub at some point prior to 1963? Or was it a different pub?
ReplyDeleteBorn 1955 5 or 6 doors up from this pub it was always called the blue bell we used to clime over the back wall and collect the empty bottles and take them back in the front for 1d back . Age 7

I think I remember Mrs McKenna and she had two sons. I lived in Reather St opposite Bright St.
