109. TV21, Thomas Street

TV21 is an odd TV and film themed bar opposite Bluu which lacks the pretentiousness of some Northern Quarter establishments. Although no draught ale was on offer, one bottled option was spotted in the form of Newcastle Brown. I'd forgotten how quaffable this stuff is on a summer's day, from the bottle rather than decanted into a half pint pot which is the traditional way (although beer boffins frown on supping from the bottle). The central bar, spaceships, aliens and artwork gives this place some character and the basement bar fills up at the weekend. TV21 was in the news last year when BBC bosses allegedly plied customers with free drinks for a documentary on so-called binge drinking [1].
