At the point where the Mancunican Way crosses Brook Street used to stand the Medlock Hotel, a large Cornbrook Brewery house. It's shown here in 1959 and by 1963 it had simply become the Medlock. It straddled the lost streets, Crossley Street and Stafford Street, and was fully licensed, as evidenced by the signs for 'Cornbrook Ales & Stout, Wines & Spirits'. The Medlock Hotel, named after the river that ran just to the north and gives Chorlton-on-Medlock its name, closed in 1963 [1], the same year that work on the Mancunian Way started [2].

According to Slater's, the publican of the Medlock Inn in 1895 was John Keary.
