This fantastic looking flat-iron pub was at the meeting of Rochdale Road (to the left) and Collyhurst Road (right) at the point where Topley Street and Scropton Street still lead off Rochdale Road. Today Collyhurst Road doesn't go this far due to the small estate here today (with its pub, the Valley). The Balmoral Hotel was a Cornbrook Brewery house and the sign in 1958 proclaims 'Beer Is Best' - who are we to argue. Here's a side view of the Balmoral from the archives, also in 1958.

Love this photo of the Balmoral as my grandad grew up in this place. Great Grandad ran this pub 1890 until he died in 1904ish. They are buried closeby in the Park on Rochdale Road. Thank you for showing.
