St Crispins Social Club, Lloyd Street South

I can count the number of times I went in St Crispins Social Club on one hand, but one in particular stands out - that of the last ever Maine Road Manchester derby, in which Shaun Goater and Gary Neville performed famously for the home side.  That day, coaches were parked over the front of the club to try and reduce the potential for trouble.

St Crispins was a classic inner city social club in that it was cheap, cheerful, old fashioned and frequented by characters.  These Phoenix Nights-style community drinking holes are fast disappearing as successive governments and parasitic Pub Companies continue with their pub-killing policies.

The Council kindly gave permission for Aldi to build a new stores on the St Crispins site, following demolition of the church and Social Club, in June 2010 [1].  Since these external snaps of the club were taken for googlemaps, the club has now gone the way of many other of Maine Road's watering holes.
