Gaslight Bar, Aytoun Street

Gaslight Bar, Aytoun Street. (c) Manchester Pub Surveys [1].

The Gaslamp is Manchester's newest bar over on Bridge Street, but one of Manchester lost bars was the Gaslight Bar in the old Grand Hotel on Aytoun Street.  The Gaslight is described in the mid 1970s as "a smaller, quieter bar, very suitable for taking a new impressionable acquaintance.  Gin and tonic is more the order of the day here" [1].  The Grand Hotel was converted into 'The Grand' flats in 1988 [2] and remains an impressive site, just around the corner from the Waldorf or passing on the tram.
