The Demise of the Great British Pub

Will the Crown & Cushion be next? Or the Ducie Bridge... perhaps the Angel?

A worthy, if sad, feature in the Telegraph - The Demise of the Great British Pub:

Peel Park Inn, Salford. (c) Chris Etchells / Telegraph.

Chris Etchells' collection of photographs follows the gradual decay of Britain's fomer drinking houses. This is the Peel Park Inn on the A6 in Salford, Greater Manchester, which has been closed for several years. Nearby pubs the Old Bank Theatre and the Church Inn have all suffered the same fate.

Shipperies, Liverpool. (c) Chris Etchells / Telegraph.

The Shipperies pub in Kensington, Liverpool was built in the late 19th century and named after the International Exhibition of Navigation, Travelling, Commerce and Manufactures which was held in Liverpool in 1886. Victorian buildings in this area are being demolished to create modern housing.

The Golden Lion, Eccles, Manchester. (c) Chris Etchells / Telegraph.

The Ship, Salford. (c) Chris Etchels / Telegraph.

The Ship, Salford, was popular in its time with foreign seamen from the nearby docks.
