Aqua / Cheerleaders / Ned Kelly's, Albion Street

Aqua, Albion Street. (c) flexioffices.

Formerly bars called Cheerleaders and Ned Kelly's, Aqua is an extension to Deansgate Locks with a clientèle to match - cheesy house, chart and indie music pounding out to the townie chav crowd. It looks like a reasonable little place as you come into town on the tram, tucked next to Saloni's salon, around the corner from the Britons Protection and off the main drag of the Locks, but myriad reviews tell another story of grotty, overpriced blandness. Was only open on the weekends and in the evening, and now looks well and truly closed down.  Shame, as its good sized lower ground floor / basement with patio to the rear over the canal could make a decent venue to improve on the dreadful Locks.

  1. Yet another that, when it opened, offered cask ale in a surprising and modern outlet. Then it went down the tubes.
