The Queen Anne is where many of the tanners spent a couple of days on the beer waiting for the Irk's flood waters of 1799 to subside as described in The Manchester Man. "There was a good deal of lounging about Long Millgate and the doors of the "Queen Anne" and "Skinners' Arms" of heavily shod men, in rough garniture of thick hide-armoury against the tan and water in which their daily bread was steeped [1]." The Queen Anne is confirmed in the 1825 census at No.63 Long Millgate off Old Church Yard and was still in the 1861 census.
