Pleasant little pub that has completely reinvented intself. Previously known as Crown Inn (see the stone work above the door, and as a Wilsons house in the '70s and '90s) and Galvin's Irish Bar (obviously a crap faux Irish bar), it was once a typical back street boozer (despite being on Deansgate).

Now they've got rid of the pool table, done up the insides and put a good selection of real ales and foreign lagers on. Slightly pricey, but probably mainly down to location, the beer was on excellent form on our recent visit. They also have a function room upstairs (where Ant and Dec filmed their Wii adverts) and a seperate roof top external bar area for smokers which is quite a pleasant area. The current owners have succeeded in doing what others have tried and failed to do previously, in turning a little forgotten pub into a thriving business. Well done to them!
Before being a Wilson's house, the Crown was a Walker & Homfrays pub - Wilsons buying out the smaller Salford brewery in 1949.

Was a Vaux pub when it was the GBG and then sold Boddingtons when Vaux disappeared. Galvins was crap but they did attempt to sell cask-Robinsons as I recall.
