Never actually been there, but I was surprised to learn it had closed as I'd always seen it as something of an institution.
ReplyDeleteIt was, but it was badly affected by the smell from the local sewage works. They tried to hide the smell of sewage with disinfectant sprays, but all this did was make the place stink of disinfectant AND sewage. I think this must have played some part in its demise as it was obviously intended to be a food led operation when I visited there in the early 1990s. It really was off putting. Very sad though. I bet a lot of famous people have passed through its doors.
