Packet Inn, Chapel Road

Packet Inn, Chapel Road, Sale. (c) Trafford Council. Click here to view full image [1].

The Packet Inn used to back onto the Bridgewater Canel on Chapel Street in Sale, opposite the surviving Robinson's house, the Railway.  It was described as a popular pub with drinkers and families alike [1], although it didn't appear to have a canal-side drinking area that you might expect of such a pub - like the new-build pub, the Kings Ransom, across the canal.  Pictured above in 1975 after closure, this one from the same year shows how the Packet Inn was part of  a row of cottages.  These were knocked down, presumably in the late '70s, and have been replaced by a nondescript  and windowless building with offices further back.
