The Longsight was an estate pub on Kirkmanshulme Lane near the greyhound stadium and current home of Belle Vue Aces. When the speedway club moved from Hyde Road to the greyhounds many fans decamped from the Aces estate pub to the Longsight. Sadly both are now closed, with the Longsight having been pulled down in the late 2000s, leaving a large pub-shaped patch of ground on the corner of Scarcroft Road. The Longsight sported Grolsch signs as a Banks's house in 1992 when Alan Winfield visited [2].

Not the only new-build Banks's pub to last less than 20 years - the Milestone/Rising Sun on Burnage Lane suffered the same fate.
ReplyDeleteA rather spectacular misreading of the market.
One of my shifts was in August 1988 when the law changed to allow all day opening. It was like the wild west in the tap room. Good memories of Rick and Mal Jones as tenants.
